Getting started

FoxQuill is a writing app for one person and one machine. It keeps your book, your notes, and your Library in a single file on your own disk. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you turn on a feature that asks for it.

The three tabs#

The bar at the top of every screen has three places to go.

• Write is where the book lives. A sidebar of chapters on the left, the text in the middle.
• Library is where people, places, and things live, one card each.
• Statistics shows what you have written and how you are doing against your goals.

Settings is the small icon on the right of the same bar.

Your first page#

A new install already has one book, one chapter, one draft, and one empty scene. Click into the text and start typing. FoxQuill saves as you go, and again when you click away.

The bar at the bottom#

The bar floating at the bottom of the writing view stays there while you scroll. It holds:

• Write and Focus, which switch between the normal view and the bare one.
• The sprint timer.
• Today’s goal, if you have set one.
• The word count of the scene you are in, and how many words you have selected.
• Whether the last change is saved.

Getting help inside FoxQuill#

The Help tab in the top bar holds these pages. Next to Settings there is a Support button with the same email and Discord link this site uses.
