License, trial, and terms
FoxQuill is a desktop app you buy once or rent by the month. It runs on your own computer. Your writing never leaves it unless you share a link on purpose.
The trial#
The first time you open FoxQuill it offers a free 7-day trial. There is nothing to pay and nothing to enter. Press Start the 7-day free trial and write.
The trial belongs to the computer, not to you. Uninstalling and installing again does not start a second one. In the last three days, the bottom bar shows how much is left.
When the trial ends, FoxQuill asks for a key. Nothing is deleted. Your books are still in your data folder, and they open again the moment you activate.
The two plans#

Both plans allow three computers on one key.
Activating#
- Buy from the link on the activation screen, or in Settings > License.
- Polar, the shop, emails you a license key.
- Paste the key into the activation screen and press Activate.
FoxQuill remembers the activation on that computer. It does not need to be online again to let you write.
Once a license covers a copy of FoxQuill, the buy buttons disappear from the app. You are not asked again.
Moving to another computer#
A key allows three computers. To free one, open Settings > License on the computer you are leaving and press Deactivate this computer. Then activate on the new one.
If you cannot reach the old computer, you can also manage activations from your Polar account. Settings > License > Manage my account opens it.
Checking in#
- Lifetime: FoxQuill checks the key when you activate, and about once a month after that if you are online. Being offline never locks you out.
- Monthly: FoxQuill checks each time it starts. If it cannot reach the internet, it keeps working for fourteen more days and tells you how many are left. After that it asks you to connect once.
What FoxQuill sends#
Only your license key, the activation id, the app version, and the name of your computer, and only to Polar. Not one word of your writing. The trial uses a hash of your machine, which cannot be turned back into a name.
Refunds#
Refunds go through Polar. Write to them within 14 days of buying and they handle it.
