Updates

FoxQuill checks for a new version every time you open it, before anything else. This keeps everyone on the same build, which means fewer surprises and fewer bugs that only you can see.

What you see#

A new version is ready. FoxQuill shows what changed and one button, Update now. It downloads, installs itself, and opens again. It takes about a minute. Your writing is not touched.

No connection. FoxQuill says it could not check, and you carry on writing. It tries again next time.

The download fails. FoxQuill offers Try again and Later. A network problem should never lock you out of your own book.

A new major version#

A lifetime license covers the major version you bought. FoxQuill 1.4 and FoxQuill 1.9 are included if you bought under FoxQuill 1. FoxQuill 2 is not.

When a new major version comes out, FoxQuill does not update you to it. It shows a card with what is new, a link to buy the upgrade, and a Continue button. Nothing changes unless you choose it.

The monthly plan always gets the newest version.

Checking by hand#

Help > Check for updates runs the same check whenever you like.

Linux#

FoxQuill for Linux is one AppImage file. It updates itself, like Windows.

What FoxQuill sends#

Nothing about you or your writing. It asks a public page which version is the newest, and downloads a file if one is.
